“Doon Doon station is where I was born – this is my father’s country. Wungkul Country is my grandfather – Paddy Carroll’s country. Like most parts of the Kimberley, there are high mountains and deep gorges on this station, 100kms. North of Turkey Creek going towards Kununurra. The Goolarbool (Snake) is said to have made the rivers and the gorges and the big rock holes and Nowanns (caves) in his journey through this country. All I can say is, he must have been a pretty busy bloke. Blacksoil country all round – very easy to remember, hard to forget these places.” Tommy Carroll
